What We Should Be Eager to Do

Galatians 2:9b-10 (NIV) “They agreed that we should go to the Gentiles, and they to the Jews. All they asked was that we should continue to remember the poor, the very thing I was eager to do. “

Paul, in defending his ministry, cites this early conflict he had with other Jewish Christians and shows how he was sent to non-Jews. Interestingly, in recounting this to the church in Galatia, Paul says the only stipulation, the final thoughts, the Christians in Jerusalem gave him was to remember the poor.

Two week ago statistics came out the deaths for refugees in Darfur had reached a low. The mortality rate was almost at pre-conflict levels. But it was also reported that Israel would not allow any more refugees from that region in the country. Remember the poor…

Here, some try to deny emergency health care and education illegal immigrants. Remember the poor…

Increasingly it’s the powerful and rich who are thought of and catered to. I spend moreTrump time talking about Trump’s comb-over than talking to the homeless in Dallas. I shell out more cash eating out than I give to the down and out. Remember the poor…

Instead, we should be like Paul. Our attitude should be proactive not pessimistic. We should care for those less fortunate with love and readiness. Serving the poor isn’t a chore, it’s a calling. Let’s complete our calling with grace, strength, and eagerness.

After all, Jesus, who had no place to lay his head, said, “Blessed are the poor, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Amen

Your attitude is an inward feeling expressed by your outward behavior. That’s why your attitude shows, even when you aren’t saying a word. Your actions become a window to your soul. The person who gives “a look that could kill” is not inward singing “Oh, happy day!”

Your attitude determines your destiny. It affects your relationship with God your family, and your friends. Your attitude will determine your success or failure as an employee or employer. Your emotional and physical health will be directly controlled by your attitude.

You Are Responsible For Your Attitude! When I was a child, my mother quoted a poem to me so often that I never forgot it: “Two men looked out prison bars. One saw mud, and the other saw stars.” Two men in the same situation chose completely different reactions! A good attitude produces a good result!

Consider the differences between Saint Paul and doubting Thomas. Paul wrote most of the New Testament from jail cell. He was also beaten and left for dead, whipped with a Roman cat-o’-nine-tails on numerous occasions, bitten by a deadly viper and expected to die, and shipwrecked and betrayed by his own brethren on the shore. Yet Paul wrote, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”(Phil.4:13).

Thomas, on the other hand, had Jesus Christ as his spiritual mentor. Thomas saw the dead raised to life, the blind healed with sight, and the deaf given hearing. Thomas witnessed Jesus walking on water and many other miracles of the Lord. Yet after all had seen and heard, Thomas still did not believe the resurrection of Christ. He had the audacity to say, “Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails… I will not believe”(John 20:25). Which of these two men are you like?
